Security & Savings

LightSpeed is developing an all fiber optics avionics solution for aircraft that replaces copper wiring and heavy components. The aircraft will become impervious to lightning and electromagnetic interference, weigh up to eight percent less, and save $millions over the lifespan of the aircraft in fuel costs. Aircraft will become less expensive to build, less expensive to maintain, and less expensive to operate. The same is planned for automobiles. And we have similar solutions for cell towers and telecom equipment, railway equipment, and maritime surface, submarine and unmanned underwater vehicles.

Advanced Technology With Endless Potential.

LightSpeed's technological strength is based upon an innovative combination of proprietary technologies with several other existing technologies brought together into a unique, simplified architecture. These technologies are:

  • Power-over-Plastic Optical Fiber
  • Zero-Software
  • Proprietary Systems-on-a-Chip
  • Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) optical power and data LAN
  • Synthetic Vision
  • Integrated Transceivers
  • Optical De-Icing and Heating

Power-over-Plastic Optical Fiber (PoPOF)

Key to the success of LightSpeed’s optic fiber system architecture is the ability to transmitPower-over-PlasticOptical Fiber(PoPOF).

Synthetic Vision

LightSpeed's Synthetic Vision provides an always clear navigational view regardless of environmental conditions, by usingL LightSpeed zero software algorithms andOptical Displays.

Advanced Communication Products:

ECS has developed and prototyped a proprietary multiple-radio product that uses LightSpeed's patented Zero-Software and System-on-a-Chip technologies to reduce the complexity of the radios typically found on an aircraft, and which scales to any type of integrated transceivers.

The antenna design uses a novel approach to reduce the aerodynamic footprint, thus reducing drag on the aircraft (proven to increase V)and lowering the cost per mile for fuel. TheSWaP savings are considerable given the extreme level of integration. The vehicle network architecture is greatly simplified. The technology has applicability to all vehicles: air, land, sea and space.

Plastic Optical
Fiber (POF):

LS-Tech's technologies allow the transmission of both power and high-speed data over fiber optics, as well as white light for the displays’ backlighting.

Plastic Optical Fiber provides a considerable reduction in the number of electrical components through the elimination of legacy copper shielding and filtering circuitry and materials, while providing immunity to lightning, EMI (Electro- MagneticInterference), RFI, HIRF, and EMP.

Optical Heating
and De-icing:

LightSpeed has architected a novel systems application of optical energy for heating and de-icing. By using LightSpeed proprietary power over fiber transmission and directly coupling the light energy source to micro-heating elements, energy is applied for heating purposes.

Using Plastic Optical Fiber, the weight of a vehicle or aircraft can be reduced, plus the overall system heating/de-icing efficiency is increased.

Zero-Software and Systems-on-a-Chip

Eliminates the need for traditional operating systems and application software, and instead uses real-time proprietary deterministic algorithms and look-up tables to improve speed and reliability. These functions are embedded intoProprietary Systems-on-a-Chip, thereby increasing system reliability and reducing size, weight, and power (SWaP)requirements:

  • All LightSpeed algorithms can be programmed using simple logic and FPGA (FixedProgrammable Gate Array) gates.
  • One application embedding multiple avionics systems onto chips, LightSpeed was able to replace five cubic feet of avionics boxes with a package of less than ½ cubic foot, resulting in a significant reduction in weight and power consumption. Coupled with LightSpeed power and data over fiber, a total of 2,860 lbs. in weight was saved of a 31,000 lbs. aircraft.
  • LightSpeed Optical Displays operate at highest resolution with un-compromised refresh rates.
